Widely viewed as one of the most professional leagues in South East Asia, the Vietnamese league - or V-League as its known - has blossomed in recent seasons.

Attendances are constantly on the rise and the ability of clubs within the league to attract talent from around the region has increased the standard of play within the country.

The top flight currently consists of 14 clubs, with the winners earning a spot in the preliminary rounds of the AFC Champions League while the runners-up secure a place in the AFC Cup. The bottom three teams are relegated.

Da Nang won the 2009 title, finishing ahead of 2008 Binh Duong with Song Lam Nghe An in third place.
